Is It Wrong to Wish on Space Hardware?

Kate Nash and Billy Bragg at the NME 08 Awards. Foundations and A New England Ma$hEd. Two great songs.

ANYWAYS. This morning I had the pleasure of having a surprise guest speaker in my 8 AM Spanish Class. Needless to say I would have been pissed if I slept through my alarm this morning. It was a close call, but I made it. June Carolyn Erlick, author of "Disappeared"is in Boston and will be speaking at Harvard later this week. Erlick shared her story of being assigned a 20 year old case in Guatemala in which a young female journalist with a political column was taken away and "disappeared." I'm about to go out and buy the book will review when done. Erlicks passion for the tragic happenings of the Impunity project and the generations effected by it resonated and remained genuine for all 60 minutes she spoke to my class. She certainly has a great sales pitch.

Props to my sister blog (Fact) Her Movez on getting her 1 second of internet fame with her shot of the fire this morning at the Mandarin Hotel. This Hotel blocks her view anyways, too bad it didn't go down to the ground bringing back the nice full view of the Charles she once had.

Joseph Kleibold

and his wife Theresa:

my great great grandparents.

and their daughter

Photobucket

These pictures were sent to my father over email through Family Tree Maker's website from someone else related to Joseph Kleibold. It is believed he was Maximilian's adjutant General. It was also believed that Theresa was an Austrian Baroness, however this could be completely untrue. These people might not even really be who my father and I think they are. All that is known in a factual sense is that my great great grandparents were born in the 1840's and traveled Oregon trail style (ox & wagon) to Colorado (proof of their presence there is supported through the Colorado Census). Reasons for their journey out West are unknown, however they ended up spending the final chapter of their lives in NY.

As mentioned before in a previous post this Photobucket came over with them from Europe and is still in my family's possession.

Moving on, I made a personal visit to Her Move's office- more specifically her cubical- on Friday

We went on a nice afternoon stroll together from Brookline to the South End. It was pretty enchanting.

Listen Up

To these artists:

Photobucket

A Fine Frenzy, "Almost Lover."

Photobucket

The Weakerthans, "Virtue the Cat Explains her Departure," "Watermark," "Relative Surplus Value," and "Aside."

Photobucket

Rocky Votolato, "Suicide Medicine," "Prison is a Private Property," and "Postcard from Kentucky."

Photobucket

The Format RIP.

The band broke up last week. The first song I heard by them was coincidentally enough entitled "First Single." Best band to listen to in the car,(with the exception of "Open Road Song" by Eve 6) especially the song "tune out." Other songs for suggested listening are "Janet," " For You," " Inches and Falling," and "I'm Ready, I am."

Photobucket

Imogen Heap, "Cumulus" AKA "Hide & Seek" and "Clear the Area."

Photobucket

Farside, the song "Hope you're Unhappy" potentially could change your life. By far one of my favorite songs of all time. Catchy as hell.

Today was extremely cold thanks to a "Flash Freeze," days like this make me happy to have a coat like this Photobucket

On a normal day I'd look like a weirdo in this coat, but when true New England weather strikes this coat goes from; strange, overly lustrous, mammoth, and overwhelming to functional. It becomes the envy of every passerby on the street stuck in their normal wool winter jacket that just wasn't made to provide warmth in -10 degree temps. Luckily the rest of the week shouldn't be so bad despite some precipitation on Wednesday.

... as previously mentioned I will now respond on last night's showing of the Grammys in regards to Amy Winehouse. She was unable to make it back in time to the US to perform at the actual show due to delays in getting issued a travel Visa. Instead Winehouse performed/ accepted her awards from London with an audience consisting of close friends & family in London broadcasted via satellite. Winehouse projected genuine feeling and validity with every word sung to viewers while performing "Rehab." This display of feeling was most likely due to the fact that she finally said yes, yes, yes, to getting her drug addition treated in rehab. Vocally not her best performance, but definitely the most emotional/ meaningful of the night. Winehouse remained somewhat composed, but timid, and for the most part humble when accepting her Grammy(s). Over the past two weeks I have given a thorough, but overdue listen to her album "Back to Black." This somewhat autobiographical album has a common theme tied together in each song. The constant reference to dealing with addiction through the metaphor of fading in and out of black, fading in and out of happiness is reminiscent in each song. "Tears Dry on their Own" is definitely the "feel good" song of the album featuring Amy in pure light. "He walks away the sun goes down...but I am grown." Another personal favorite on the album is "You Know I'm No Good" which Winehouse performed last night prior to "Rehab". I could bore readers with more references of the theme of fading in and out of light for example, in "Wake up Alone," the line regarding drowning in blue light, but I won't. Cya Bye.

So I was walking home today...

down school street- not my usual route home from school. I usually do everything I can to avoid Downtown Crossing. I saw a group of people stopped and staring up at a tree on the corner of School St. & Washington St. where Borders is located. Being the curious sleuth I am I joined them and pointed my eyes up at the tree as well.

This is what I saw: Photobucket

Photobucket

A Hawk. Nothing too wild, a little weird to see one in the middle of Downtown Crossing, but nothing new. Last year I saw one outside the State House hangin'. As I was about to continue walking it left the tree and dove into the bushes on the prowl for something. As this happened the mob of business people, police, and tourists lurked in closer...so I did too.

Someone called Animal Rescue for the poor little guy. Eventually it got over being paralyzed from the crowd's wrath and flew back up into the tree. The crowd dispersed and I continued my walk home.
